The Shining

I’ve been around to my in-laws’ house twice in the past two days. Z was running an errand with his father, and I was keeping Mum company. FiL is slowing down and she worries by default, so it was extra extra worry. I made sure Z tought it would be useful for me to be there, ’cause I know what it’s like when you’re stressed and someone tries to insert themselves into your space. I didn’t want to do that. He was 500% sure that she’d welcome it, and indeed she did x2. Yesterday was with the kids, but ice cream kept them happily occupied while Mum took advantage of chatty adult company; the girls were at school when we went around today.

Z and I also briefly conversed on ways to get Mum out of the house more. I’d suggested that he organise a trip with her to the garden centre for a potter, and that the girls could stay home with me. He pointed out they could easily do it during the week, since yanno, working from home gives us even more flex than we had before. He said he liked the idea of it as well, so that made me happy that I brought it up. My roll of good ideas extended to proposing a pared down Thanksgiving, since we aren’t going to be doing our usual thing with R & C. Like yanno, get one of those cook in bag whole chickens rather than a full turkey, roast dinner, bosch — another idea well received. *grins*

Also like, work. Work! Now that we have a new person in, I can branch back to helping Z a bit more. I did a couple of sets of accounts for him, just like, baby step easy ones because it’s been so many years since I last did one. While I am admittedly nervous that I’ll cock something up past the point of repair, it’s nice to be able to stretch a bit and make things easier for Z.

Right, too many words. I flee for the eve.
