Break the Spine

No Comments on Break the Spine

Today was the first day back to school, and because of how the school does the Reception year, I had to go pick Littler up at midday. It was sort of nice, insomuch that it’s been some time since I’ve had to do that. She was very chatty, and it was a pleasant walk back home. We get to do it again tomorrow, and then it’s onward to proper-length days.

One thing I’ve noticed the last day or two is that it feels like the spine of summer is just about broken. Summer is… not my friend. I could kind of handle it when I was closer to equatorial, but here in the north with the summer days so long… it is unkind to my sleeping patterns, and it is unkind to my depression. I do a lot better when I am cold, and not having to deal with sunlight. I make no secret of the fact that I will fully revert to night hours when the girls are grown up, because I know that’s where I feel best. But obviously, that’s many years down the road, and I am in no rush to get past these years. 🙂

For now, I am going to wrap this up and get some caffeine in the freezer. E should be over to hang out tonight, and I want some ice-cold Coca-Cola to cram into my facehole.
