Usually, I like to keep my finger on the pulse of global news, good and bad. But ever since the United Kingdom voted for Brexit, I’ve sort of been in a numb bubble about the bigger world. I guess the deal is that Brexit is so close to home and so freaking unresolved that I can’t spare energy to think about it. And if I can’t think about what is going on ‘locally’, how am I supposed to tear past that to register all the horrible shit going on in the world?
Well okay, my title is a bit of a lie. I DO care. I’m just impotent to do anything more than write a few words here and there, and I do do that much if and when I am able to. It probably makes me sound a bit horrible, heh. I don’t know. I have a hard time knowing what the right level of investment in anything is due to having to basically be all sorts of labour (to include emotional) to my n-mom. I’m still figuring a lot of this stuff out. But I just don’t have it in me to stand around and watch while the world burns right now.
Speaking of burning, the temperature is what would be called scorching here in the UK. Today’s high was in the high 80s, and tomorrow might break 90. Now, that’s one thing if you’re in a country where air conditioning in homes is the de facto way of being. But here? Man, our house is the exception with the inclusion of not one, not two, but four ceiling fans. The two in the lounge combined with any kind of breeze keeps our main space mostly tolerable (doubly so as compared to the standing temp of 86F we’d see until late at night in the summer at our old place) Me being a born and bred Texan, I willingly went out in it more than once to wander around after Pokémon. I tried to get my in-laws to join me to go have lunch on the river, but they wisely decided to stay in the cool.Aaaand I keep circling around trying to think of something else to add, so I’m going to leave things here.<3
